Frequently Asked Questions
General Information
What does your recycling program do?
We take scrap 3D printing filament and plastic waste, recycle it, and turn it into new, high-quality filament.
How much does it cost to recycle my plastic
The current cost is $15 per 1kg, however, this is credited directly to your account in the form of points equivalent to a full 1kg spool in our shop after we receive your shipment (About $21 worth of points).
You can then use your points to “buy” filament from our shop at no additional cost.
Can I buy filament without sending in plastic?
Yes! Our recycled filament is available for direct purchase on our shop.
However, you will get a discount by sending in your material to be recycled.
Sending in Plastic
What kinds of plastic do you accept?
We currently process the following material types:
- PLA
- PETG
We do not accept:
- Resin prints
- Contaminated or painted prints
- Plastics mixed with non-3D materials (like metal or food)
Do you cover any shipping costs?
We do not cover any shipping cost for your material.
We are working to provide a drop-off option to those in the Denver area! Email Sales@filacycle.org for more details
What happens if I send in the wrong material?
If we receive plastic that is not suitable for recycling (e.g., mixed types, resin, or contaminated materials), it will be discarded or returned at your expense. We recommend checking our materials guidelines before sending anything.
Earning and Using Points
How does the points system work?
The new points system is unique in how you earn points. Each 1kg you send us will cost you $15, however once we receive your material we will credit $21 worth of points for each 1kg to your account. This will allow you to use those points for a 100% free 1kg spool of our standard PLA or PETG.
Are there other ways to earn points?
Just by sending in your material to be recycled, the more material, the more points!
Can I track my points?
Yes! When you create an account with us, your point balance will be visible in your dashboard. We’ll also send an email confirmation after each accepted submission.
Filacycle Filaments
Is your recycled filament safe for all 3D printers?
Our filament has been tested by many different individuals, printers, and print farms.
We can guarantee industry standard deviation of only ±0.3mm on our 1.75mm PLA and PETG
What is the quality of recycled filament like?
Our recycled filament is tested for consistency, diameter tolerance, and printability. We use mesh filters in our extrusion proccess to ensure there no contaminates in the final product.
Tell me more about Filacycle’s filament
Our filament is made from 100% recycled 3D printer plastic, sourced directly from makers like you. We’re committed to providing eco-friendly material without compromising print performance.
Here’s what you can expect from our filament:
- Sustainability First: Every spool reduces waste and helps close the loop in the 3D printing community. We recycle, remanufacture, and reuse—all in-house.
- Diameter Tolerance: We have achieved ±0.03mm tolerance on our filament. Each spool is quality-checked throughout the extrusion process.
- Custom Recycled Spools: We now produce our own unique spools which are made 100% from PLA that has been recycled.
